Gadsden police investigate 2 unrelated shootings | News
GADSDEN, AL (WBRC)- The Gadsden police department is investigating two unrelated shootings that both occurred Wednesday, June 13. In the first shooting, a pair of brothers were shot in an apartment complex around 5 p.m. and one of the brothers died as a result of his injuries. In the second shooting, a man was shot in the leg while walking down a west Gadsden street.
Police identify the brothers shot at the apartment complex as Corion Jackson, 20, and Jeffery Montez Jackson, 21. They were shot during an argument at Gateway Village, located in the 700 block of South 14th Street. The brothers were transported to Birmingham for treatment. Corion died overnight from his injuries, Captain Regina May with the GPD said.
May says a suspect in the Gateway Village shooting has been identified but not caught. Neither of the victims lived in Gateway Village.
Gadsden police are also investigating another unrelated shooting that happened around 10:20 p.m. Wednesday. May says a man named Bradley Maurice Varner, 23, was shot in the back of his leg while he was walking in the 1000 block of 4th Avenue in west Gadsden.
"Witness accounts vary as to how many rounds were actually fired when Varner was shot," May said in a press release.
Varner was taken to Gadsden Regional Medical Center for treatment. A suspect in the west Gadsden has not been identified.
