Calling all pumpkin carvers

Calling all pumpkin carvers

It's prime time for pumpkin carving, with Halloween less than three weeks away! What kinds of jack-o-lanterns are you creating and seeing around your neighborhood this year? Scary or funny? Intricate designs or traditional jagged smiles?

We want to put together a slideshow of the jack-o-lanterns that are decorating your doorstep. You can send us photos of your pumpkins by uploading to our Facebook page (www.facebook.com/myfoxal), sending it to our Twitter account (@myfoxal), emailing us at pix@wbrc.com or uploading it to TellFox.com.

Please include your name and hometown so we can give you credit as the photographer and pumpkin-carver!

A stroll through Nomad’s Land

A stroll through Nomad’s Land

By Michael Mee

This morning, Nomad's Land began their Second Annual Pilgrimage Fundraiser Walk in Trussville, aimed at raising money for a faith-based outreach.

The 45 mile walk will culminate on Sunday at the 40 acre Nomad's Land in Attalla. Participants are raising money by asking sponsors to donate tax-deductible contributions for each mile that they walk. The money raised will go to fund improvements being made on the property.

Last year people from California, Texas, North Carolina, Minnesota, Kansas, Florida, Georgia, Alabama and a family from Europe joined in the pilgrimage.  Kevin Simpson and James Fridy of Birmingham will attempt to walk the entire pilgrimage in one day.

After the pilgrimage is completed on Sunday, a potluck celebration will be held on the property.

Ride for Relief tours tornado-damaged areas

Ride for Relief tours tornado-damaged areas

The Ride for Relief motorcycle ride will be held today, starting in Talladega and going through 185 miles of areas in East Alabama that were impacted by the April 27 tornado. See this previous story for more details on today's ride:

Ohatchee. Cullman. Shoal Creek Valley. Ragland. These towns were among the dozens in Alabama that experienced damage and devastation in the tornado, and in September, they will have something else in common: each of these towns is on the route for a 185 mile motorcycle ride that will raise money for tornado relief efforts.

The American Red Cross announced Monday that the ride will take place Saturday, Sept. 10. It begins in Talladega, passes through St. Clair, Etowah and Cullman counties, then loops back to its starting point after riders take a two-hour lunch break in the middle.
