Gadsden church hosts trunk-or-treat

Goodyear Heights Baptist Church in Gadsden is hosting a trunk or treat event for the community on Monday, Oct. 31 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Games, free hotdogs and plenty of candy will be part of the fun.

The church is located at 608 Kaving Road North in Gadsden.

2011 Gadsden Heart Walk held Saturday

A 5K "Heart Walk" in Gadsden Saturday will raise awareness about the dangers of heart disease. Participants will also have the chance to meet survivors of heart disease and strokes, learn about prevention methods and find out their own risk factors for cardiovascular disease.

Registration for the heart walk opens at 8 a.m., the opening ceremonies will be held at 8:45 a.m. and the walk starts at 9 a.m. It will be held in the Coosa Valley YMCA at 100 Walnut Street in Gadsden.

The American Heart Association is presenting the 2011 Gadsden Heart Walk.

Blount County Covered Bridge Festival held Saturday

The city of Oneonta will celebrate its heritage as the Covered Bridge Capital of Alabama this weekend with a festival dedicated to the history of the county and its three remaining covered bridges.

The events surrounding the 28th annual Blount County Covered Bridge Festival, set for Saturday, Oct. 22, include an arts and crafts festival, quilt show, 5K and fun run, car show, river walk, pancake breakfast and golf tournament.

Mission Center lunch fundraiser held today

The Etowah Baptist Mission Center in Gadsden is serving homemade soup, chili and sandwiches today in efforts to raise money for their benevolence fund.

"Times are tough for everyone this year.  We at the Missions Center are preparing for a rough winter for all," Julia Ford said in an email about the event.

Today from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m., the group will be at the First Baptist Church of Gadsden selling meals of vegetable soup or chili, a corn muffin, a grilled cheese or peanut butter and jelly sandwich, cookie and tea for $7. The meals will be available for eating in or taking out.

Zombies to invade downtown Gadsden Saturday

Zombies to invade downtown Gadsden Saturday

If see the walking dead roaming through the streets of Gadsden this Saturday, it's most likely not due to the apocalypse. The 5th annual Zombie Parade has been planned for Saturday, Oct. 22.

A zombie meet-and-greet begins at 4 p.m. and the parade through Broad and Chestnut streets will be at 4:30 p.m., according to The Gadsden Times. The event is free, open to all ages and even dog-friendly.
