For the AU fans: Time-lapse video of Toomer's Corner paw painting

This one is for all the Auburn Tigers fans out there, a little something to get you excited about football season! From our sister station in Auburn, WTVM:

AUBURN, AL (WTVM) - Check out this time lapse video of students from Auburn University's Student Government Association repainting the Toomer's Corner tiger paw. 

The students gathered to repaint the paw Monday night, while police blocked the intersection and directed traffic.

Painting the tiger paw is becoming a fall tradition for students at Auburn.

Sheriff's Office to host blood drive Wednesday

The Etowah County Sheriff’s Office is partnering with the American Red Cross to host a blood drive, according to Sheriff Todd Entrekin.

The blood drive will take place, Wednesday, August 1, from 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. in the Multipurpose Room at the Sheriff’s Office, located at 827 Forrest Avenue, Gadsden.

The public is encouraged to donate.

Classic cars are welcome to cruise-in to downtown Gadsden and enjoy the festivities!

Immediately following First Friday, we welcome everyone to join us at the Mort Glosser Amphitheatre for the Summer Concert Series featuring Groove Addiction! The concert is free and will take place from 9 to 11pm, cushions and coolers are welcome!

Gadsden gears up for Riverfest June 8-9

The city of Gadsden is getting ready for the 26th annual Riverfest, a music festival held on the banks of the Coosa River. The address for the festival is Highway 431 on Albert Rains Boulevard. Gates open at 4 p.m. on Friday and 1 p.m. on Saturday.

The lineup for this year's festival is as follows:

Habitat for Humanity dragon boats on display this weekend

A sneak peek of the dragon boats that will be used in The Inaugural Habitat for Humanity Dragon Boat Festival will occur this weekend at the floating docks behind The Fish Market Restaurant on the Coosa River. Two boats will be on display both Friday, June 8 from 4-6pm and Saturday, June 9, from 11am-1pm, with a demo race at 11:30am.

The official race, which will take place on Saturday, August 18, will help benefit the Gadsden-Etowah chapter of Habitat for Humanity. Each 42 foot long Chinese Dragon Boat will have 20 paddlers, one drummer and one coxswain to race. The race course is .250 meters on the Coosa River at the boardwalk. Each team will race two heats and the top 12 teams will compete for the championship. Prizes will be awarded to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finishers. Additional prizes will be awarded for Best Team Spirit and Best Drummer Costume.

The sheriff's office department is holding a blood drive at their headquarters today until 3 p.m. in the multi-purpose room. Their office is located at 827 Forrest Avenue, Gadsden, Alabama 35901. Donors are asked to bring a photo ID or their Red Cross Donor Card.
